LG launches LG Cloud, blows raspberries at S-Cloud

Image

Four days before the purported launch of Samsung's cloud service, Korea's other technology giant has unveiled LG Cloud. The eponymous service offers 5GB free space as standard, while owners of LG's Smart TVs or smartphones will get 50GB free for six months. It'll push content between your devices, appropriately compressed for the medium, so high definition images on your TV will be slimmed down to save your phone's data cap. The free beta begins in South Korea and the US from May 1st, with a global rollout pencilled in for next year -- but don't worry, the company made it clear you'll be able to use it on your holidays, if you can find a signal.

Which celebrity would you most like to see talking with Siri in an iPhone commercial?

Last week Apple debuted two new iPhone 4S commercials, once again highlighting the still-in-beta Siri, but this time using celebrities Samuel L. Jackson and Zooey Deschanel to do the demos (does Santa count as the first celebrity?). Apple rarely uses celebrities in their advertising, so maybe this is the beginning of something new and exciting? Could there be more celebrity Siri spots in the future? And if so, who would you like to see?

We're all familiar with Apple's love affair with thin devices. Although the third-generation iPad surprised many by gaining about half a millimeter of thickness, it looks like Apple could be back to trimming product dimensions by using a new kind of display technology in the next iPhone.

Nokia head of sales resigns, department aims to reduce 'layers of management'

Nokia head of sales resignsColin Giles, Nokia's executive vice president of sales, has announced that he's stepping down. It follows the company's dour financial results for Q1 and will lead to a restructuring of the company's sales organization, aiming to strip layers from what's currently in place. Giles has been with Nokia since 1992 and was heavily involved in the company's movements in China and the larger Asia market. However, he had only been involved in Nokia's Leadership Team for just under a year. He will stay with the team until June 30 and cites a desire to be closer to his family following his departure. Announced through Nokia's official channels, the process aims to "ensure greater customer focus" -- we suppose that will involve more than just white polycarbonate.
