I have loads of vintage ironstone pottery, mostly white or offwhite. they all have different degree's of crazing due to age but the crazing is dark in some areas making the crackle noticable and look bad. I wonder if it is possible to remove these 'dirty' spots to make the crackle less noticable.
The only way to lighten the 'dirty' spots is to paint over them and I wouldn't recommend that. why not think of it as part of the charm of the vintage piece?
It's getting harder to find old pieces now and you don't want to diminish their value.
What you think makes the piece look bad, is what makes the piece so beautiful to someone else.
That's the joy of collecting! ![]()
