The University of Dubai (UD) is now accepting applications for Fall Semester for its 2013/14 academic year. Fall Semester classes begin on August 31. UD also plans to introduce a new Master of Laws (LLM) degree later in the fall.
The university will be led into the new academic year by a newly appointed president, Dr. Eesa Mohammed Bastaki. Dr. Bastaki?s extensive experience in education, leadership, technology and communications will prove a major asset in leading the university into its next progressive phase, which includes the building of a new campus and the addition of several programs such as a Master of Laws degree and a Doctorate degree in Business Administration. Dr. Bastaki is the recipient of the highest award in UAE - ?Emirates Excellence Award in Sciences, Literature and Arts? in the field of Sciences.
The new Master of Laws program will offer students two major options: the first is Arbitration and Dispute Resolution and the second is Financial Crime and Money Laundering. The two majors were designed to address the emerging needs resulting from the rapid growth of business in Dubai. UD representatives commented that as business in the UAE grows and evolves, it is important to ensure business practices remain fair and companies remain responsible. The men and women graduating with an LLM from UD, they say, will have the responsibility of accomplishing this task.
The university plans to welcome new students with its orientation program called Bidayaat, which begins Sunday, August 18. New students will be able to meet student club representatives and learn about student life and the various departments of the university. Organized by the Department of Student Services in collaboration with the UD Student Council, the program will include campus tours and a range of fun activities including games and raffle drawings.
