Rappeller's Inspect Earthquake Damage To Washington Monument (PHOTOS)

On Aug. 23, 2011 a 5.8 magnitude earthquake rattled the northeast. One of the structures to sustain damage from the quake was the Washington Monument, located on the National Mall in Washington, DC. After conducting an aerial inspection by helicopter, the National Park Service closed the monument and set in motion a team to start the laborious block-by-block inspection of the 555 foot tall monument.
