Where can I get more information on the business of real estate ...

? ?

Question by MichaelP: Where can I get more information on the business of real estate development?
I?m interested in learning about real estate development and the business of it. I want to own my own business when I get older and this is one industry I am considering because it is of interest to me. Any information helps.

Thanks

1) Go to work for a developer for a while
2) Classes in real estate. A number of business programs across the country have courses in real estate, and development. If you want more of a cursory look, figure out what books they are using for their first real estate course, buy and read them.
3) Contact industry associations. ULI (Urban land institute) and ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) come to mind for us. However, I don?t know how much use they are without a membership.
4) Local meetings?the ones I?m aware of locally are held by organizations such as ULI and local brokers. If you can get into those, you may be able to pick the brain of some developers, and they can tell you what the next step would be.

That?s a start?hopefully you get more ideas.
